I recently shared my recent sketchbook pages on my Instagram stories.

I've been thinking about them since then, and how I could hardly wait to get them on canvas.
Initially, I created the reference photos separately. As in they had nothing to do with one another.
But given my current lack of a studio space, I decided to go "production mode".
It's where I work on multiple pieces at the same time so that they're always at the same stage all the way to the end, allowing me to produce more paintings in a short time.

About the paintings
When I had these canvases side by side as I began working on the sketches and then the light washes of ink and acrylic, it became undeniable that they should be paired together.
First I noticed that one woman has her head up, while the other is slightly bowing.
The bird wing sealed the deal for me.
I asked myself, "What if I explored the idea of flying high and being grounded?"
Of not feeling afraid to reach higher, while remaining rooted to the earth?
Chasing your big dreams is exciting. But it's hardly a straight path.
When you inevitably face storms, what anchors you?

It's almost rare for me to come up with a specific meaning let alone titles right at the beginning of painting.
Often the revelation happens midway through if not at the very end.
Not these two! It's as if they demanded what message they wanted to convey.
I wonder if either of them speaks to you at this time in your life. Let me know.
These paintings are in progress. Stay tuned for the final pieces :)
As always, keep the dream alive 🦋
